Smith & Wesson M&P .22
Smith & Wesson has finally released the M&P22. Yup! a .22 LR caliber handgun which is the same size as the 9mm, 357, and 40mm models. It's available with either 12+1 or 10+1 magazines as well as a thumb safety.

True to Smith & Wesson, they kept the single action. It has a 4.1" (10.4cm) barrel and of course the polymer grip and metal frame. I'm loving everything about this gun right now except for the price… Retailing in at $419.
The firearm doesn't come with those nifty backstraps that all the other M&P models come with. Although being a .22 and not having too much kickback I'd still like the backstraps to match my 9mm model for training purposes, plus if I'm paying $420 WHY NOT?!
I think it's a great way to train a bit more if you own the 9mm, 367, or 40mm since ammunition costs are way lower. You may not get the same feel if there's no extra backstops that you currently use or even the kick of the gun, but I think you'll have fun with it either way. The more time you have training regardless of the caliber, the better!
On the Smith & Wesson website they put personal protection, professional/ duty, and home protection as the purpose of the gun… I don't recommend you use a .22 caliber for anything else but target practice or .22 competitions. I've seen a .22 round literally bounce off of one of my friends before so stick with 9mm and higher for personal, home, or professional protection.
My final thoughts on this piece is a 8/10 only because of the price and lack of backstraps. Other than that this is a really nice gun as expected from Smith & Wesson.
