Rainy days,

   It's been raining all day, most people complain about it. I must admit... I really enjoy rainy days, it gives me time to contemplate. To some it's muggy, cloudy, and messy, but it's actually the only times I can think the most clear. To me, the slow calming of pace makes things a bit more tolerable.

   No one's rarely outside, no one bothers you, it's a sanctuary that I can enjoy on my own. Of course I'm sure that i'm not the only one who thinks this way, in fact I know a few people who would concur. In a neighborhood like mine you can appreciate the little things that many dread, rain, snow, and other "mishaps".

   The drug dealers around the corner are too afraid to get wet... They don't want to mess up their brand new white sneakers, or stupid looking pink shirts. Only the desperate ones still sell dope and God knows what, wrapping garbage bags around their heads and small shopping bags around their sneakers. I can't help but to think to myself "It's just water!". Quite ridiculous if you ask me...

   The families and friends who usually hang in front of my building pack up and head inside. No more yelling, arguments, slang spoken threats, fighting or bickering, just the sound of the rain hitting my windowsill. The smell of the rain reminds me of my younger years of looking out the window and laughing at the people running from the rain as if they were about to melt. lol!

   The rain today made me think about how training with firearms teaches more than just safety. To me it teaches patience, balance, precision, and the will to advance in more than just shooting... Education, life skills, patience with people, tolerance with life's lessons, and of course the readiness to defend friends, family, and Loved ones. Regardless of the weather, you still have a job to do, a family to protect, or duty to your country.

   I for one feel at peace when rain falls, as it washes away the dirt and grime from the city streets. When it thunders I can't help but to walk in the down pour of heavy rain. Drenched clothing and rain that comes down so hard you feel as if you're under water swimming. No, this isn't an exaggeration at all.

   I think about one of my favorite quotes in the movie "The Crow", "it can't rain all the time" and its sad since I'd like the rain to last just a bit longer... Before I know it the clouds clear away and the sun shines once again... Then everything is back to normal...
